چکیده
Abstract We conducted centroid moment tensor (CMT) inversion for small-to-moderate aftershocks in the off Ibaraki region of 2011 Pacific coast Tohoku earthquake. In this study, we used high-frequency (0.4–1.0 Hz) seismograms from a dense array short-period ocean bottom seismometers (OBSs) and reliable three-dimensional (3-D) seismic velocity model. Higher frequency analysis OBS arrays offer CMT solutions with high spatial resolutions. Since our observed occurring immediately following earthquake, determined 536 (JMA-scale magnitudes 2.5–4.0). According to solutions, characteristics aftershock activities are classified into 5 groups: (1) thrust earthquakes, which considered as interplate separated by large slip area Ibaraki-oki earthquake (the largest $${\mathrm{M}}_{\mathrm{w}}$$ M w 7.6 earthquake) tectonic tremors; (2) intraslab strike-slip earthquakes located at north fault earthquake; (3) normal-fault suggest tensional stress field within subducting Plate due plate bending overriding Philippine Sea Plate; (4) various focal mechanisms above seamount, 3-D complex fractures; (5) shallower than were possibly caused heterogeneity seamount. متن کاملObservations on regional variability in ground-motion amplitudes for small-to-moderate earthquakes in North America
The regional variability in earthquake ground-motion amplitudes for a given magnitude and distance in western North American environments was examined using ShakeMap data from small-to-moderate events. The abundance of data for small-tomoderate events in California allows average ground-motion levels, as a function of magnitude and distance, to be resolved with a high level of confidence. Groun...
متن کاملRapid Full-Wave Centroid Moment Tensor (CMT) Inversion in a Three-Dimensional Earth Structure Model for Earthquakes in Southern California
S U M M A R Y A central problem of seismology is the inversion of regional waveform data for models of earthquake sources. In regions such as Southern California, preliminary 3-D earth structure models are already available, and efficient numerical methods have been developed for 3-D anelastic wave-propagation simulations. We describe an automated procedure that utilizes these capabilities to d...
متن کاملApplying inversion to construct rational spiral curves
A method is proposed to construct spiral curves by inversion of a spiral arc of parabola. The resulting curve is rational of 4-th order. Proper selection of the parabolic arc and parameters of inversion allows to match a wide range of boundary conditions, namely, tangents and curvatures at the endpoints, including those, assuming inflection.
